Jenny + Seth’s Wedding Film

We were so honored and happy to be able to travel to Davenport, Iowa on July 4th weekend to celebrate the amazing wedding day of Jenny and Seth! I got there the day before the wedding and drove around getting some cool location shots around the city before heading over to the Sacred Heart Cathedral to watch the rehearsal. While I was there, I got some fun behind the scenes footage of the rehearsal and so happy I did because some of that footage made it into the film! I think by adding that extra video, it really brought Jenny and Seth’s story together.

The day of the wedding was just so beautiful! I was so blessed to work with some of the best vendors all day! The venue, Hotel BlackHawk, Autograph Collection, was absolutely jaw dropping. The staff was over the moon kind and welcoming, I would absolutely love to film here again.

Weeks leading up to the wedding, I was in communication with the planner, Abbey DePauw of Blissful Events By Abbey, and she was absolutely ON IT! The details I got in every email was so awesome! As a videographer, we love details. The more we know that’s happening in the day, the easier our job is to do. When I finally got to meet up with her, it was like meeting up with an old friend. She brought so much awesomeness to the day! It was here where I met Christopher Crow from Hyvee Moline as well, the florist who brought the room at the Hotel Blackhawk to vivid life with his amazing craft! The make up and hair team of Ashley Ibsen was so on point! She did a great job and in the Covid era, kept everything very safe! And I’m just talking about the vendors, let’s get to the amazing couple!

While I filmed with Jenny while she was getting ready, Nick was filming with Seth and the guys. The whole morning there was this beautiful building tension and excitedness with Jenny and Seth.

And can we just talk about Jenny’s wedding dress for a second? WOW!!

They really wanted to see each other! And without a first look, they were going to see each other on the opposite ends of the church’s aisle… and boy does that emotion build up perfectly. Watching Seth see his beautiful bride for the first time in the film still brings up tears for me! But it listening to the interviews we did with Jenny and Seth after the day that everything really clicked emotionally with me. Getting to see how they were feeling leading up to the big moment was such a beautiful honor and joy that really comes off in the film.

The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and before we knew it, we were off doing the creative session and driving around Davenport to get those amazing film moments that make the film just pop with excitement! As a videographer, this is where we love to shine and make some beautiful moments.

It was hot outside for sure, but you’d never know it by watching these two! They were just so lost in love with each other and it lit up the entire day. Everyone could feel their energy and positivity! Pretty soon we were off to the reception back the Hotel Blackhawk! And what a gorgeous reception it was! People drank and ate and excitedly entered the room after Jenny and Seth got to see it first, and then, it was time for the grand entrance, toasts and that AMAZING first dance!

The night was perfectly played, music and flow by the amazing Twisted Mics DJs! WOW! They were so professional and so much fun to work with. Guests loved them and we loved working with them! The planner, Ashley, I don’t think ever stopped working. She was awesome! While filming the ring shots, the mother of the bride, Julie, came up to me and made sure that I was going to sit down to eat. It was a small moment, but it truly made a huge impact for me. It’s no where near on the radar of family or even the couple to worry about us on their big day, but when they do, it’s this glowing, heart-warming feeling. So truly, thank you! Oh man! I wish I had taken some shots of the chocolate Jenny and Seth gave to everyone at their tables made by Lagomarcinos. Those were…. WOW. I can’t even describe them they were so good!

And after some great dancing, a bouquet and garter toss with nothing but smiles, we pulled the wedding party outside to do some sparkler exit shots while the city of Davenport was launching fireworks in the background.

At the end of the night, I was sad to leave, but knew that we had gotten some amazing footage of the day. There’s always this duality in my heart at the end of the night after a wedding. Half of me wants to stay and party with the couple as we become so close on the day, and the other part of me wants to rush home and look at the footage we shot and start editing right away! As I said our goodbyes for the night, it was bitter sweet. Jenny and Seth, their friends and families… all so kind, loving and welcoming. What a truly wonderful day. On the way back to my hotel, I stopped just outside of town and filmed some of the fireworks exploding the sky to give a little “umph” in the film somewhere. It was a beautiful end to a beautiful day.
